Coloured pencil Workshops

I currently run art workshops a couple of weekends a year in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. These cover coloured pencils and graphite pencils. They are usually run at weekends in May and August - Dates vary. We trial every subject before the workshop itself so we can produce a booklet for every attendee which will help guide you through the workshop and at home so you can continue your portrait at your leisure. During the Workshop we do between 4 - 6 demonstrations, so you can see how each section is created. Once back at your workstation, should you need help, we can provide 1 to 1 help and guide you on your way. This ensures that you are never left struggling alone unless you are happy working alone.
There will be certain art products available to buy throughout the day (these vary) and if you wish to purchase an art kit, book yours via the booking form. These are priced at £15. Purchasing a loan/home kit means that you will have the right colours for the day and any future coloured pencil workshops you may wish to attend.

About Coloured Pencils

Coloured pencils as a medium are rising in popularity due to the fact there is little mess, easy transportation for impromptu sketching opportunities and they can be used to create a wide range of styles from Illustrative up to the photo realism style. It is great news that  art companies such as Caran d'Ache, Derwent & Faber Castell now have pencil ranges with high lightfast ratings and archival qualities, and it means that coloured pencil art is finally gaining the recognition it deserves, being exhibited in many respected art galleries around the world and getting praised by those people who originally thought it to be a 'kids' medium - as a self taught, coloured pencil artist from a very young age and with over 40 years of practice - this news makes me very happy!

Our coloured pencil workshops are run to give those wishing to learn about producing fine detail in their pencil work, an insight on how to build up a coloured pencil piece. Coloured pencils can take many hours to create something quite detailed and our workshops offer those interested in realism, a chance to learn how to create detailed portraits.  These workshops are open to anyone from complete beginners looking to try out a different medium or those wishing to improve their current pencil techniques, and are tutored suitably for all artistic levels. Each subject varies as does the paper, so we can offer a wide range of choices for artists of all calibres. Step by step demonstrations are given throughout the day so everyone can follow the same technique that Karen uses in her own work, these demonstrations are offered 5 to 6 times throughout the day to make it easy to follow and everyone receives their own workshop booklet that everyone can use throughout as an additional aid which you can then take home and use for future reference.
These workshops will show you, whether an absolute beginner or an intermediate:

* Where to begin with coloured pencils
* How to achieve fine details
* How to layer with coloured pencils
* When & how to use the white pencil for best effect
* The importance of base layering
* How to blend coloured pencils

Wildlife including Birds and Big Cats are 2 of my favourite subjects.
