Step by Step Art Workshops

These workshops are open to anyone of any artistic ability, even those who have never used pencils before. We will show you how to create finely detailed portraits in coloured & graphite pencils.

At each workshop, we show you how to create the subject via step by step demonstrations tutored by artist Karen M Berisford. You will also receive a booklet that you can work from between demonstrations, but help is always available should you ask for it. All this ensures you in your masterpiece and make the process as enjoyable as possible.

Why not come and join us!

August  2 Day Workshop 11:30am - 4:00pm

What is included in the workshop?

As these Workshops are offered to Artists of all calibre whether a complete beginner or an Intermediate, each Workshop is designed to give as much information about the medium as well as offering help and advice to all that need it, whether it be through the Tutor Demonstrations, the 1 to 1 help or the Workshop booklet that is yours to keep and continue using at home to complete your portrait or as reference for future projects.

Tutor Demonstrations

1 To 1 Help

Workshop Booklet

The Workshop is broken up into 5 Tutor demonstrations, which allows everyone to watch how each section is created, pick up any hints and tips and to offer a good understanding of what it is they need to do to create their own masterpiece!
After each demonstration, Karen is constantly on hand for anyone who may need a little guidance or advice throughout the day but understands some may prefer to work alone so keeps visits to a minimum!
Karen trials each subject before the day and creates a Workshop booklet which is given out to each attendee for use on the day. It is yours to keep so you can use it to finish your portrait at home and save it for reference in future projects.
Karen has found that tutoring this way really allows people to physically see and understand how to get the best out of the medium that is being taught and also allows those who may not have used the medium before, a good insight on what can be achieved. At no point does Karen put any pressure on anyone to complete their portrait, and she encourages people to add their own individual style to their portrait.

Where are these workshops run?

These 1 Day Workshops are run in the town of Chesterfield which is in Derbyshire, on the edge of the Peak District. If you have heard of the 'wonky spire', (officially known as the Church of St. Mary and All Saints) this is the place!
Bonsall Court Community Centre is the Workshop venue which can be found in Newbold - a 5 minute drive from the town centre and spaces are available for up to 10 people. Everyone gets their own table to set up their workspace allowing enough space to bring along your own Desktop Easel should you wish.
Parking is available close by and the centre also has disabled access but sadly no disabled toilet.
